Civic Dinner at Chaucer College

On October 29th, Chaucer College hosted a Civic Dinner to raise money for the Lady Mayoress’s Charity, The Footlights Trust which allows disadvantaged children to attend the theatre.

The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Carolyn Parry and her husband and Consort, Mr. Stephen Parry attended with the Mayors of ten other towns in Kent. Dr. Wren, Vice-Chancellor of Chaucer College invited the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Kent, Professor Keith Mander, his wife and Lady Melville.

The staff and students prepared a seven course Japanese meal including such favourites as tempura and green tea ice cream, and students provided entertainment including the Fishermen’s Dance, the Taiko Drums and individual performances from Rei Takara (violin), Hikaru Yamashita and Maiko Suzuki (koto), Yu Terashima (san shin). It was a highly successful and enjoyable event.

10月29日（水）、カンタベリー市長が代表となっている慈善団体であるフットライト・トラスト（恵まれない子供に演劇鑑賞の機会を与える活動）の募金集めをするためにCCCがシビック・ディナー（公職人対象の夕食会）を主催しました。

カンタベリー市長のキャロライン・パリー氏と夫であるスティーブン・パリー氏がケント州近隣の市町から10名の市町長と配偶者を来賓として招き、また、レンCCC学長が次期ケント大学長に任命されたキース・マンダー教授と令夫人、そしてメルビル令夫人（前ケント大学長夫人）を招待しました。

料理担当の教職員と学生が天ぷら、刺身の盛り合わせや抹茶アイスクリームを含むコースメニューを用意し、催し担当の学生はソーラン節の踊りの披露や和太鼓の演奏、また、個人種目として高良玲衣がバイオリン、山下光さんと鈴木舞子さんが琴、寺島裕さんが三線の演奏を披露しました。 多くの参加者からお褒めの言葉をいただき、盛況の内に幕を閉じました。
